Topic: Gloat gloat gloat! (I love a bargain)

My local Cash Converter must be the world's greatest goldmine of fantastic and expensive(ish) lenses that they have no idea of the going price and sell way too cheap!

Not only did they have the perfect condition Flektogon 35/2.4 for £25 in a mixed bag of Praktica gear a couple of years back (I gave them £25 for the lens and told them to keep and sell on the rest), today I walk in, pretty skint after Christmas but fancying a look around the charity and cheapie shops just in case, and there it is ...

OM-Zuiko 50/1.4 (late version, MC), absolutely spotless flawless condition. £9.99.

Initially I'm so floored that I say to the guy "I've already got one so don't need yours, I paid £60 for it years ago which I thought was fair but I've seen them selling on eBay for well over £100." Suggested he resticker it quick and walked out the shop and left him to it. Me and my stupid better nature.

Then 50 yards down the road thought "What kind of idiot am I?" Back to the shop, "Listen mate, I know what I just told you, but if you do still want to sell it me for £9.99 I'd be an idiot not to have it."

Deal done. I'm now a happy owner of two spotless, flawless 50/1.4 Zuikos :-) I suppose I ought to sell one and share the love!

Lordie,  LOL.   Sounds like a stunt I would have pulled.

I've got an OM  1.4,  they are  a pretty good lens

Re: Gloat gloat gloat! (I love a bargain)

Much sharper than I ever gave it credit for in the past - the NEX manual focus assist really gets the best from it. A bit of bloom at ƒ/1.4 that's gone by ƒ/2 (where the bokeh's also optimal) and sharp as hell.

Looking at the eyes at the largest image, that lens takes a bit of beating Steve... even though it has the assist of the Nex it's an obvious cracker at £9.99... beautiful cat too.

Amazing deal!

Mostly in my bag ATM: Fuji X-T1, X-E2, X-E1, Leica M8, Nikon1 V1 and several lenses...
Things ON SALE!

Super shot and what a beautiful cat!  looks just like my Bagpuss I had in the 90's but sadly passed away.
There's something very special about cats eyes (not the ones made by Percy Shaw) they always look very intense and lovely colours.
Got to get myself a NEX one day amazing quality just need to convince her indoors I need one! lol
Great to see there's still some bargains about too!

Re: Gloat gloat gloat! (I love a bargain)

I held off on a NEX for ages, then I saw a used 3 at an almost irresistible price locally. Did it, don't regret it. It's almost like they were thought out to be a manual focus lens nut's dream digital back. Everything works like you want and expect it to, and it's so small and cute, like a 1970s half-frame camera. Great sensor too. ISO3200 is genuinely usable if you have to. OK, if I was bitching I could ask for a PC-sync socket too, but it's so good in available light that I don't miss flash much.

There is a standard hotshoe adapter available on ebay for the NEX's accessory port - "JJC MSA-10" ~ 15EUR.

Re: Gloat gloat gloat! (I love a bargain)

Oh! Neat! Do you have any idea what trigger voltage the NEX can take? I'd imagine it's not very much.

Re: Gloat gloat gloat! (I love a bargain)

I don't know for sure, but with anything above 5V on this tiny camera I would feel a slight discomfort wink

Re: Gloat gloat gloat! (I love a bargain)

Steve, It looks like you did very well all around. wink

I put that adapter in a safe place, never to be seen again.

PS, Here's an article that might interest you regarding trigger voltage for the Sony Nex.

Take this information with a grain of salt as I cannot confirm how true this is, but it did make sense.

Re: Gloat gloat gloat! (I love a bargain)

I've been thinking of getting a  NEX.............

Re: Gloat gloat gloat! (I love a bargain)

440, if you see a deal, don't overthink it. It's a different way of working to a DSLR for sure but I like it a lot. It is a great, small, high quality platform for MF lenses. The video's not half bad either, even if you wouldn't use it a specialist video camera.
