Topic: Peleng: Portmeirion, etc

Some shot I did last week with the Peleng. Having a renewed honeymoon with the little lens; it's been in the bag for years as a permament resident, and I really love it.
Some images had had a bit or reprojection in Lightroom to reduce the dark corners (with the new Lens Correction thingy), otherwise all full frame. Also left the odd flare spot etc.

Re: Peleng: Portmeirion, etc

You perform marvels with the Peleng. I'm afraid I could not get on with mine, though I do like fisheye.
All good shots but the street shot (The Strand) is my Fav as it has so much impact and life.

Re: Peleng: Portmeirion, etc

Thanks guys; yeah the landscapes I prefer too, but Carnivals are goofy shots, I rarely shoot it like that.

I've been thinking of crossgrading to the Samiang 8mm, I wonder if it's significantly different. It's true the Peleng can have pretty hefty flaring at certain angles -- of course you learn to watch out for them but...

I tried the 'Samiang 8mm' at my dealers (On a Nikon) and it seems very good.
1 No cut off corners, Full frame coverage on crop DSLR.
2 Less distortion than the Peleng
3 Priced at around £220 on eBay.

Can't comment about flare (One of the reasons I sold my Peleng) as I never took any photos, but there are a few reviews on the web that state it is well controlled. Built quality of the Samyang feels very good. I'm tempted to get one, they are a bargain.

Re: Peleng: Portmeirion, etc

This lens suits very well  the eccentricity of carnival ; I like these pics !

I am a Pentacon and kiev( MF and35 mm) user, and also :contaxII,III,IIa  ,contaflex , contarex bullseye ,voigtlander ....

Re: Peleng: Portmeirion, etc

Thanks Rob for the mini review; funnily enough the Peleng now rate around £220 too ! Thats a pretty hefty hike from 4 years ago or so when I bought mine! I remember paying $180, but with a much different exchange rate too...

Re: Peleng: Portmeirion, etc

Would love to see what that little lens can do on a full frame camera.

Re: Peleng: Portmeirion, etc

Clever and creative use of the lens, strong set! Really like 1,3,5,8, and 9. You don't post color that often, I should mark this
on my calender. ;o)

Re: Peleng: Portmeirion, etc

Cool!

The first four are how I imagine using the lens. Unusual and interesting landscapes portraits.

Cheers, Will.

Re: Peleng: Portmeirion, etc

I love my Peleng on my 40D in the same way I love my Zenitar on my 5D.
I'm not a fan of my Peleng on my 5D. Circular fisheye shots are just too special.

Great shots, buze!
