Topic: Vivitar XV-1 (a Cosina CS 1 clone)

Dear all

I'm currently very tempted by a Vivitar XV-1 with Vivitar 50mm. 28mm and 135mm lenses.

I know that the camera and probably the lenses are Cosina re-brands and are standard Pentax K, but I can find liitle more detail.

Is the camera fully mechanical? Is it match needle or LED display?

any details/personal experience would be welcome

regards

Stephen

Re: Vivitar XV-1 (a Cosina CS 1 clone)

Hello,

I found this:
http://www.butkus.org/chinon/ultimate_k-mount.htm

It says that VIVITAR VX2 is in fact a COSINA CS-2
May be VIVITAR VX 1 could be then the COSINA CS-1 (???)

Name     Year     Aperture Priority     Shutter Priority     Manual Mode     Program     Exposure Comp.

Vivitar XV-2     1978             Y                           N                        Y                    N              N

Self Timer     Hot Shoe     Depth of field     Mirror Lock Up     Exposure Lock     Shutter
                               N                  N                      N                     N                N             1-1/1000, B

Here is COSINA's (CS2 model) manual:
http://www.butkus.org/chinon/chinon/cs-2/cs-2.htm

Yes, indeed it is has K mount.

All the best.

I have John Wolf's Vivitar Book at home which deals with the XV-1 thru 3. Will post any info tomorrow.

Re: Vivitar XV-1 (a Cosina CS 1 clone)

The Viv. XV-1 is 5 1/4 x 3 3/8 x 1 7/8 (133 x 86 x 48mm) and weighs 14 1/2oz (450g). All manual match needle camera. It is a rebadged Cosina CT-1 with mechanically controlled Copal metal focal plane shutter speeds from 1 to 1/1000 sec. + B & X sync. at 1/125 sec. Uses cds giving center weighted average measurement over EV range 3 to 18. ASA 25 to 1600. Uses 2 S76 silver oxide batteries. Has split image range finder with microprism ring.
Hope this helps.

Re: Vivitar XV-1 (a Cosina CS 1 clone)

I have a Vivitar XV-10. Seems identical to the XV-1! Hopefully soon, I'll be back to work on "The Casual Collector" and add it to the Cosina page.

Yes. All manual, center the needle light meter and easy to get battery for the meter. The shutter is mechanical. The XV-10 (and XV-1) works fine without a battery.

Finally gone digital
