Topic: OK, I was wrong about the last 35mm SLR! (OM1 needed to happen)

Yeah, it's not like the F3, but it's equally desirable and when a mate had one for sale at a sensible price ... like the F3 the OM1 is a camera I've wanted since they were new (yes, I'm old enough to remember back to the early 70s ads!)

I already had the 50/1.4 Zuiko (well I've had two - sold the first to another mate and kept the minty one I got for £10 at a Cash Converters :-) It's a kind of indifferently good lens adapted to digital but shines where it was meant to be used.

And the other one I like using is the Sigma Miniwide 28/2.8 (but have an option to get hold of a 24/2.8 Zuiko off yet another mate!)

Nice small cameras ( OM1 and Mju-II ) and good pictures from the OM-1 : with these two classic cameras , you can't be wrong , Steve .

Re: OK, I was wrong about the last 35mm SLR! (OM1 needed to happen)

The OM1 is a real beauty to use! It's old school enough to be fully mechanical and have a shutter that's not battery-dependent, and even has stuff like manual mirror lockup and FP bulb flash as well as X sync. But it feels modern, and of course has the greatest viewfinder ever put into any 35mm SLR. So, so big and bright, it's utterly wonderful to use and compose in.

The OM1 is a great camera to use as it has all features you can dream of to take pictures. Its only weakness is the hot shoe, fragile and prone to cracks with full size flash units.

Yeah, I wouldn't even trust it to a small flash. Mine is unscrewed and sat on my desk, which is where it's likely to stay! The camera looks cleaner and sleeker without it anyway :-)

Neat little camera. I lusted after the OM2, but for various reasons and distractions never got one. tongue

I put that adapter in a safe place, never to be seen again.

Re: OK, I was wrong about the last 35mm SLR! (OM1 needed to happen)

I may have accidentally committed to buying another one. £80 for the OM1 plus (get this lens list):
24/2.8
50/1.8
135/3.5
200/4

All Zuikos. Really I just wanted the 24mm lens on its own but seeing as I could easily pay the whole £80 on fleabay for just that, another free OM1 and more lenses sounded like a gift horse whose mouth was not to be examined too closely.
