Topic: Old Nikons

I have a Nikon F and a Nikkormat FTN since the 70's. Still work like a top.

Re: Old Nikons

I also own, use Nikons: 1950's Nikon S-2, 1959 Nikon F all original, 1967 Nikon F-36, 1987 Nikon N2020, 1999 Fuji S-1Pro Dslr which accommodate most Nikkors. All of the above function just fine and I don't feel the need to up-date my Nikons. My favorite lenses are 35mm perspective control f2.8/ 45mm f2.8P with contacts for film and digital but only manual focus(my favorite form of focus), lastly my 105mm f2.5. Several non nikkors that I like are 17mm f3.5 Tamron, 24mm F2.8 Tamron, 135mm f2.8 Tamron and 300mm f5.5 Soligor. meniscus

Re: Old Nikons

The F3 is my dream camera, and I have it! It's a dream camera not because it's super sophisticated or big or heavy, but because it's small and solid, not too heavy, not too clever but just clever enough, and it does everything it needs to do just perfectly. It's my Goldilocks camera, just right.

Canon EOS30D, Sony NEX-3
Favourite M/F lenses: Nikkor 50/1.4 pre-AI, Zuiko 50/1.4, Flek 35/2.4, SP 35-80/2.8-3.8, Macro-Tak 50/4 preset *NEW* Jupiter-8 and more rangefinder lenses to come!
Favourite (and only) AF lens: Sigma 12-24

Re: Old Nikons

In my youth the Nikon F2 was ubiquitous.  The press and PJ's used it more than any other single model.
It was the camera to which I always aspired.  But at around $1000 in 1970's dollars I could only dream.

By the 1980's the Nikon F had become more affordable.  I loved using my FTn throughout my college years.
When it was stolen I bought an FM2n.  I never really warmed up to it.  I switched to Pentax 15 years ago.

I resisted for a long time but recent falling prices on the F2 enticed me to take the plunge with Nikon again.
I now have a small Nikon outfit consisting of F2 Photomic with 50/2, 105/2.5 and 200/4 late pre-AI Nikkors.
I added an AI Nikkor 35/2, my "normal" lens.  I'll keep my Pentax stuff, but I love using the old Nikon gear.

Mostly if I'm using a SLR it will be a FTN or my FT2 . I have both 105 's , a 35mm and of course a few 50's . They are heavy cameras but built to last. The ruggedness is hard to find in the newer offerings these days. I own some AF cameras but it's MF that gets the nod most of the time. glad you started this post.
