Meyer Optik Görlitz Trioplan 2.9/50

- tiny lens - 45x40mm, 100g, stylish duralumin finish,
- simple triplet design (3 lenses, 3 groups), single coated,
- 12 aperture blades (circular aperture at all settings)
- mfd 0.6m, pretty long focus throw (300°),
- available for Exa/Exakta, Altix (both pretty common as it was one of the cheapest lenses for these mounts) and M42 (pretty rare)

at f2.8 distinct glow effect due to massively undercorrected spherical abberations, but already good centre sharpness - and, of course, it features the "funky" bokeh with heavily outlined highlight discs in the image background; pretty susceptible to flare

Your second image shows that one can use the "defects" of a lens to compose a beautiful picture : the roundness of your cat are in harmony with the bokeh ! This is a powerful image .
Is this lens the same that the Domiplan ( built also by Meyer ) ?

I am a Pentacon and kiev( MF and35 mm) user, and also :contaxII,III,IIa  ,contaflex , contarex bullseye ,voigtlander ....

Re: Meyer Optik Görlitz Trioplan 50mm f2.9

Honestly, I don't know for sure, I've never owned or used a Domiplan*. But judging by its lens schema it should behave the same way, at least wide open (it features only 5 aperture blades, so the highlight discs would be obstructed when stopping down)

*It was the cheapest lens around, mostly bought by amateurs as a kit lens to an Exa or entry level Praktica. But after they spent some time with it, it seems everybody was avoiding using it, like it was the leper of its time... I wonder why wink

The cat photo's absolutely fantastic! I agree with Peter, I usually hate brightlined bokeh, but it works with the cat wonderfully.
