Topic: Vivitar 283 age?

Do any of you folks know how to determine the age of a Vivitar 283 flash given the serial number?  I know it's relatively easy for Vivitar lenses.  I just bought a used one, and the seller knew nothing about its age.  Since they made this flash for 30 years, I'm curious.  My 283 is made in China and has s/n 8042077.  There's an old price tag on it (maybe original, maybe not) that reads $69.  FWIW, I measured the trigger voltage at 9.4V.
