Chris,

The Prakticar 50/1.4 is one of my favourite lenses; I have two first version examples, with engravings marked around the barrel instead of on the front trim ring. The mixture of "sharpness of line and softness of image" (paraphrasing Ivor Matanle) is much evident at large apertures, which I find appealing.

Very nice photos indeed

The first version of CZJ Prakticar 50/1.4 may have different rendering,
this lens is much softer at wide open and have characteristic bokeh.

I do not have an example of the second version to compare against my first version, but what I found is that the first version is quite prone to yellowing. If the second version is free from this defect it means the optics would have been a complete redesign.

My version Prakticar 50/1.4 the first or the second?

As I know different versions differ the form of petals of a diaphragm, my version have "star" form and It is not pleasant to me (

_VR_ ,  your 50/1.4 looks like the second version.

Seele,  yes the second version is completely re-designed.

          The yellowing could be cured by "UV flashlight-ing"
          experimented by fellow MFer cogitech.  According to him
          2 sets of three AAA batteries can do it (de-yellowing).

          UV flashlight can be obtainable from eBay seller

          I will try to do it for the yellowed first version 50/1.4.

Koji,

I do have a few lenses which suffer from yellowing but then I am not too fussed; for colour work I have those which are not prone to this problem, and I do b/w mainly, so no big deal there!
